Donald and Stephen Glover have reportedly signed on to write Lucasfilm’s upcoming Disney+ Lando TV series, according to a new report.AbovetheLine reports and io9 has confirmed that the brothers have taken over writing the series after the departure of Justin Simien last summer, who reportedly left to focus on directing Haunted Mansion. In a separate interview last week, Simien seemed uncertain of his current status with the project.”I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show,” Simien said. “It feels like everybody loves it, and, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago. So I don’t know, I have no idea what’s going on with it.”The Glover brothers’ involvement has been locked in for months, per the report, but has been on hiatus since the start of the WGA writers’ strike in May of this year. While it has not yet been confirmed, this does very likely mean we’re set to see the return of Donald Glover as the titular Lando Calrissian, something Glover has alluded to previously. The show was first announced in December of 2020 at Disney Investor Day, but nothing new regarding it has emerged since as other Star Wars series including The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Ahsoka all received more attention.Asked during Star Wars Celebration if it was still happening, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told IGN, “I can just tell you it’s still happening, and he’s very excited about it.”Glover first appeared as Lando Calrissian back in Solo: A Star Wars Story. We wrote in our review at the time, “Donald Glover charms as the cape-wearing gambler Lando Calrissian, delivering on the promise his casting held for so many fans of both the actor and the Star Wars icon he’s assuming. “Glover captures the duplicity and bravado of the best-dressed rogue in the franchise, while also revealing a surprisingly tender side at one key point in the film. Lando hangs out in a gambling den for a good chunk of the film, a setting that also allows for a showcase of the film’s many cool, new alien designs.”Rebekah Valentine is a Senior Reporter at IGN
